I was stationed at the Portland Ajax Launcher Area from 1960 until 1961 when we trained the National Guard, who took over the site. Cpt. Bidwell was the Battery Commander at the time, and CW2 Ivey was the Warrant Officer at the Launcher Area. Lots of great memories of my time in Portland. I have some pictures from that timeframe. It is hard to believe these pictures are from what was once a well groomed site. Like you said 50 years is a long time to hold memories, but I think I remember a Sgt. Johnson, that was in National Guard, that was stationed with us before the NG took over the site in 1961.
