The photo below of a nuclear-hardened satellite dish shows the lengths that the military went to do protect their Command, Control and Communications infrastructure. 




In Connecticut there were a number of cold-war related communications facilities, many of them initially owned by A.T.T. and constructed in part to support the government's Autovon network.
