I came and trained at S1C as a MMFN from Sept 87 to March 88 and transferred to the Fleet in Aug 88. Trained under some good operators and personnel in general EM1 Delroy Brown, EM2 Michael Long, MM2 Duprey, MM1 Ronald Helwig and Commanding Officer Cdr. Peters. Later on in my career as a MM1 on board the USS Carl Vinson, I had the pleasure of qualifying MMC Ronald Helwig the guy who taught me how to work under pressure with people screaming at you. It was the worst of times and it was the best of times.

In response to Winston Eldridge Jr.'s message, I was stationed at Portland's B-Battery's IFC as a Target Tracking Radar Specialst. Cpt Bidwell was our CO when my twin brother and I were recruited for the Show Team "Nike In The Attack" located at Ft. Totten, LI NY. Also remember WO Ivey...both good men. ____________________________________________ Winston M. Eldridge Jr. (Chuck) said: November 14th, 2012 12:09 pm I was stationed at the Portland Ajax Launcher Area from 1960 until 1961 when we trained the National Guard, who took over the site. Cpt. Bidwell was the Battery Commander at the time, and CW2 Ivey was the Warrant Officer at the Launcher Area.

Ryan Gorneault left a 10.10.13 message regarding Avon...this battery was a component of another Battalion than the 2nd Missile Battalion's B-Battery in Portland, CT. I was related in other words. Any questions can be sent my way.
